COURSE  DESCRIPTION:                                                 

This course aims to develop students’ basic translation skills. It introduces learners to the mechanics and art of translation in (Arabic/English) ,with intensive practice on a variety of topics . It reinforces analytical knowledge of sentence structure in both languages and how this knowledge promotes the basic accuracy of a transalion.Students learn to adopt effective strategies for written spontaneous translation. Translation  techniques will be taught and then students will apply them to practice passages .

Students are required to translate both from Arabic to English and English to Arabic.

 COURSE OBJECTIVE:

  1. Developing bi-directional skills(English/Arabic)
  2. Training in at –sight translation

COURSE SYLLABUS:

  1. Methodology and mechanics of at-sight translation.
  2. Language skills involved in at- sight translation.
  3. Analyzing spoken and written texts for translation purposes .Training in the acceleration, accuracy and appropriacy of at-sight translation.
  1. Linguistic and cultural contrasts between the source language and the target language and their impact on the transference of the intended meaning.

PREREQUISTES:

None- Students should be proficient in a variety of common sentence patterns used in English.

Exam Format: Students will be given previously unseen passages and are required to provide translations that demonstrate proficiency by translating the texts.
